Ginkgo Biloba

Ginkgo is one of the most widely studied herbal medicines with over 400 published studies to date. Ginkgo is an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and circulatory stimulant, and has neuroprotective and cholinergic effects and modulates several aspects of neurotransmission.

Children and young adults

Ginkgo supplementation improved the total symptom score; in particular, the parent and teacher rated inattention in children and adolescents with ADHD. Acute supplementation of Ginkgo complexed with PS, also improved secondary memory performance across all post-dose testing sessions in young adults.

Adults and the elderly

Ginkgo has been the target of numerous studies elucidating its cognitive benefits, and systematic reviews have largely found positive results in dementia, mild cognitive impairment and as an adjuvant to antipsychotics in schizophrenia treatment. Ginkgo has been found to have a high safety and tolerability profile in these studies. Acute doses of Ginkgo also appear to improve working memory and speed of attention in healthy individuals.
